Bogue Chitto State Park is only 10 minutes from our daughter's and her family's house outside Franklinton so it was an easy choice to book a site at their Upland campground. Check in at the front gate to the park was easy we had made online reservations and we found our site easily, backed in with no problem and was setup quickly we have a small diesel pusher motorhome.
The have full hookups with 50A, water and sewer, but no Wifi out of service or cable tv, but this is typical of state park amenities. Nice pad site with fire pit, grill and picnic table - clean and level, also.
Another positive is their trail network in the park that includes walking, biking and horses. My dog and I walk several miles every day and enjoy the backwoods areas when available.
Beautiful, hilly woods throughout the park. We spent a great three days with the family and thoroughly enjoyed our quiet, comfortable and easy stay at Bogue Chitto. We plan on returning shortly. Nicole K Arlington, TX 1 contribution. People at horseback riding trails were rude. Lady got mad bc I have cerebral palsy and had a panic attack. She yelled at me.
Would not give me a refund. Never again. Camille 10 contributions. I visited this park and was well pleased. There are cabins for rent and two separate areas to camp with a good many sites. There is a 5 mile hiking trail through the park, lots of small lakes to fish in and several decks to fish from as well. The Bogue Chitto River borders part of the park and offers a large sandbar with picnic tables and room for volleyball nets. In a separate area, there is a splash pad for children.
The park also offers trail rides. Also there are forested areas and sandy areas which provide a diverse terrain. We stayed in a 5th wheel. Roads to the park are good. Bogue Chitto State Park is clean and well maintained, with a helpful polite staff. We only had a full day there as we were traveling through, but we did get in a hike on the shaded trail. All of the sites were large, clean and grassy. This was an awesome place to tent camp for the weekend.
There are plenty of activites, tubing, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, disc golf and more! For larger groups and family reunions, the park offers a group camp and a conference room, and in day use areas, numerous picnic pavilions, an outdoor classroom, water playground for the kids and 11 lakes stocked with a variety of freshwater fish.
And, the whole family will enjoy the splash pad's spouts and waterfalls, and a long, low water slide. Note: the splash pad is open seasonally, closed on Mondays, and shuts off by 6 p. Fourteen miles of equestrian and single-track biking trails wind through some of the most interesting topography of southern Louisiana, with the trail head located near Fricke's Cave, which -- despite its name -- resembles more of a gorge, and boasts delicate, 2-foot tall sandstone spires created by water erosion.
You can admire the natural creation from nearby boardwalks, as the formations are too delicate to allow visitors to walk amongst them. The site is open daily. Gates are open 8 a.
