Can i move i386 folder

Is it ok to move this folder to another partition? My guess is that we only need that folder if we are re-installing Service Pack 4? David H. It is needed whenever yo chage hardware or modyfy the OS. If you do change its location, you should also chage the Registry to pint to its new location. Another thing you could consider, if you haven't already done so, is moving the paging file from the C drive, which it defaults to.

The downside to this is that you lose the ability to write a memory dump if your server crashes, so take that in to consideration before you move it from C. Please reply to the Group only, This address cannot receive incoming messages.

I'm not sure how my permission I messed up, but I think it had something to do with me after trying to move the desktop folder of the standard on the Office of the administrator user, and I was logged into the Admin account. I tried to recreate it, but I was unable to. Anyway now fixed it. Years later, I deleted those same files, then erased and then removed again from the trash.

Any way to rebuild the trash or otherwise to clean? The files remain an embarrassing reminder of my foolishness, but otherwise my system is always very good.

When some programs including Windows installs things, it can create a temporary folder composed of random letters and numbers or random numbers and letters in the root of the drive of the volume with more free space. This explains why the records are sometimes on your C drive or any other drive - the most space?

There may be other folders and files in this main temporary folder such as amd64 and i platforms. They should normally be deleted when the installation is complete, but sometimes they are not - especially if the installation fails. They are harmless but annoying. You can think something is wrong when there are no or fear, that the files are really necessary. To avoid confusion, you can delete the temporary files. If your installation has failed or the installation does not remove the folder to the random name when it finishes running again installation will be another folder at the random name.

If the installation does not work for some reason, run again just installation will create a new temporary folder to the random name so the old temporary folder is really useless. Records are sometimes tough to remove. Even if you are an administrator on the system, you might get a "sharing violation", "access denied", "used" or type similar message when you try to delete temporary folders. Facilities sometimes use different permissions that can have a regular user with the administrator group.

You must add the shell extension so when you right click on the offending file, you will have a Unlocker option to choose.

I would just install it long enough to clean up the leftovers and then, I usually just uninstall and all parts of it. You can always install it again another day if you like. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is not available".

If the CD you have was included with the computer when you bought it then it usually has all the drivers needed for your hardware on the CD.

Posted 13 August - PM. The question i think you are asking is how did i use the dell activation code on other computers. I did not do that. What i did was use the dell CD and took the original activation code i found on the sticker that was attached to the side panel of the computer i was fixing. Apparently all dell does is add their own drivers to a regular Microsoft CD. So you can use a dell CD to install windows you just can't use the same activation code that came with the dell computer.

Perhaps there would be a problem if you used a different video card than dell uses on their computers, and windows does not have the correct drivers for the video card. But what i think what would happen is the OS would just revert to the microsoft default drivers.

Posted 14 August - AM. Now I got it. Thanks once again. Can you give me the path where the i folder is located? Access denied. How do I get around this? Can I copy the i folder by just copy pasting it? I recently purchased a new PC with Windows 7. I used the Easy Transfer program to move files from my XP computer to the new one.

It copied the whole I directory. Is there any point in having it ona Windows 7 computer? Jin: You can copy and paste, but if there is an error 1 file does not copy or something like that then the copy process will stop. Otherwise just find a windows cd for the version you have. Hope that helps.

Leo, I have a bunch of I directories on my hard drive. None are in the C: directory. The biggest one MB is in a personal pictures file which does not make sense. My question, is how did the file end up in my pictures directory and can I delete it. I typed in D:- It came up and said. What does this mean? And what can I do to fix it? Thank you, Lisa. Do not delete it for a couple of reasons. You can repair a damaged Windows that will not start, from the recovery console, much more easily by espanding the required file from I e.

Secondly, I believe some of the Service Packs add files to this directory which are not present on the original CD. Comments violating those rules will be removed.
