The should have a sign that says, Oceanside, CA is bankrupt, please pay a fine before you leave! Oceanside is a trap for parking fines. But they have a machine that is defective and won't take your money or your credit card! But they have a very efficient parking enforcement group that pounces on every car in the lot!
And is it a reasonable fine? It can be nice in the summer but over all not a great spot for tourists its also a high crime area.
This is a very long pier! It has some nice wave breaks on both sides where you can constantly see surfers rippin it up throughout the day. You find a fisherman every couple of feet from each other from just about the beginning all the way to the end of the pier. Ruby's Diner sits at the end of the Pier, and is a great place after that long walk to get a burger and milkshake their milkshakes are the best!!!

Thats a good thing. This somewhat less sophisticated Southern California village reminds one that nature is still the best tourist attraction there is. Plus, Oceanside is experiencing its own revival. Lets just hope that it continues to maintain its small town charm for those of us who prefer the lull of the ocean waves and the graceful swooping of the evening procession of pelicans to the overly crowded tourist destinations that continue to close in on our Southern California beaches.

There were almost always people fishing on the pier, and my god they had some huge hauls! I was fortunate to see a guy about halfway down the pier catch an adolescent hammerhead shark about 3 ft long. For someone from Chicago, that was pretty cool!
