Weber initially fought back. In a statement, the company claimed that their products and accessories were all designed and engineered from the Illinois facility. As a result, their claim that the grills were made in the USA was, in fact, accurate. Weber settled the case out of court, but they made no effort to change their practices. In fact, most of the company manufactures most of their products in China these days.

The Smokey Joe measures 14 inches in diameter and is available in a variety of colors. The Jumbo Joe offers a bit more grilling space at 18 inches, but it has the same squat design as the Smokey. Many of the parts are only available on the aftermarket burners, heat shields, cooking grates.

Remember when you import products, you are subject to minimum quantity orders. When manufacturing is subcontracted, you are relying on the contractor to stay in business and have quality and consistent manufacturing. Often, if they change equipment, the engineering of your grill model will change thus making replacement parts obsolete. Then, when you need a replacement part, it no longer exists. Case in point: We had a customer with a Bull Built-in Grill and they needed a new manifold. Due to changes in design, this part was no longer available and the grill became worthless.
