If I ever met Paul, I would just flail uncontrollably and hyperventilate. I wouldn't even be able to say Paul, Macca, or Sir Awesome. I love Paulie. It's such a cute nick name. I don't know if he liked it though. I think Macca is the coolest nickname ever. Well excusssseeeeee me. I heard it might have been some hold-over from the early days when they gave each other nicknames Macca, Hazza, and apparently, Lennie. I think it's just something that was done as a form of affection.
It just is. Darren or Daryl- Daz or Dazza. I can't think of any more, but they are there. Gazza is now a common nickname for people called Gary, and similarly, Wazza for Wayne Rooney. I'd always taken it for granted. I'd do that too. That isn't a hoop, It's a lethal weapon, have you got a license for it? Is it a shortening for McCartney?

Macca seems to have its originals going back to at least the Star Club days, but more likely it was a thing between John and Paul. Of course, Macca isn't his only nickname. Paulie and Sir Paulie get tossed around a lot, too, and always with affection by his fans. Veterans of the man's official site and message board have always called it Macca, even back in the early Wingspan days.
